FAQ Survey and GPS tracking

This Study is a collaboration between Tourism in Skåne AB, University of Tasmania with funding from Tillväxtverket.

The purpose of the study is to better understand how visitors move along the bike trail. The knowledge gained by will be used for better decision making, investment, development and to increase the quality of the tourist experience in the region.


What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of the study is to understand how visitors move along the. Sydostleden bike trail.

This knowledge will allow both government and the tourism industry to enhance the tourist experience by providing more timely and relevant travel information and will inform tourism-related infrastructure and investment decisions.


Why have I been invited to participate?

You have been invited to participate in this study as someone who is travelling along the Sydostleden cycling trail. Your participation will be confidential; this study does not require you to provide your name or surname.


What will I be asked to do?

In order to contribute to this cutting-edge research into understanding how, where and why tourists travel along Sydostleden cycling and hiking trail, participants are respectfully asked to do the following:


1.    Install and launch the Trails of Southern Sweden app (you already done this if you are reading this). Once this is done click start below and accept on the pop up confirmation window and your mobile device will start tracking your location. You will receive a map of your trip at the end. You can opt out at any time by clicking Stop and uninstalling the app from your device and contacting Tourism Skåne at tourism@skane.com. Keeping your device in places such as your handbag, backpack or pocket would be ideal.

2.    Answer survey questions on your phone. You will need to answer this survey to receive your personalised ‘Tourtracker’ souvenir map.

Are there any possible benefits from participation in this study?

If you complete the survey on your phone during your trip, you will receive a ‘Tourtracker’ map of your route and destinations.


Are there any possible risks from participation in this study?

There are no risks identified from participation in this study.


What if I change my mind during or after the study?

Participants can withdraw at any time and can do so without providing an explanation. You can opt out at any time by uninstalling the app from your device and contacting Tourism Skåne at tourism@skane.com


How will the results of the study be published?

Study findings will be disseminated through academic publications and in presentations at conferences. Tourism in Skåne will produce reports which will be distributed to media and available via other channels, such as websites associated with Tourism in Skåne. The results will also be available on the Tourism Tracer Dashboard, available at www.tourismtracer.com. All results are not identifiable, which means you will not be individually identifiable in any way.


What are the potential benefits to the wider community?

This project has been contracted by Tourism in Skåne, who received the funding from Tillväxtverket, the Swedish Agency for Economical and Regional Growth, to improve the infrastructure of the trails and to better understand the visitor experience in Skåne region. This study will provide rich insights into infrastructure and information provision.
